More teacher contract settlements, more school strikes for WEA members

Tuesday morning (Sept. 4) teacher strike and settlement update.

Teachers in these school districts have reached tentative agreements with their school districts on contract settlements.

Teachers in Vancouver are meeting this morning to vote on a tentative agreement reached over the weekend. If they ratify, their strike will end.

Teachers in Hockinson and Ridgefield ratified new contracts on Labor Day, ending their strikes. Teachers in nearby Camas also ratified pay raises on Labor Day.

Superintendents should heed the sage wisdom of Yoda.

Teachers in Tacoma have a general membership meeting this afternoon and may take a strike vote. Tukwila teachers are in negotiations today and will be on strike Sept. 5 if they don't reach a settlement.

Teachers in Evergreen, Washougal, Battle Ground, Longview, Centralia, Stanwood-Camano, Rainier and Tumwater are on strike. (Student classes were set to start Sept. 5 in Tumwater and Centralia.)

Educators in nearly all Washington school districts are seeking competitive pay raises needed to atttract and keep caring, qualified teachers and support staff for our students. Schools received $2 billion in new state funding for educator salaries this year because of the Supreme Court's McCleary funding decision.
